UPSC SO Steno Eligibility Criteria 2019

The crucial date for the examination of SO Steno will be 1st July of the examination. S.O./Stenois a departmental exam so its eligibility is based on work performance and served service. Hence, detailed Eligibility criteria are given below as category wise.

Category I – Assistants’ Grade of the Central Secretariat Service and Personal Assistants Grade (Stenographers Grade C) of the Central Secretariat Stenographers Service.

  • Not less than 5 years of’ approved Service.
  • Shall also have earned at least four Annual Performance Appraisal Reports in the Assistants’ Grade of the Central Secretariat Service OR
  • Personal Assistants’ Grade of the Central Secretariat Stenographers’ Service.
  • Personal Assistants of CSSS shall possess a Bachelor’s Degree of a recognized University or equivalent.
  • Category II – Grade IV of the General Cadre, Grade – II of the Stenographer Cadre and Grade II of The Cypher sub-cadre of the Indian Foreign Service, Branch ‘B’.
    • Not less than 5 years’ approved and continuous Service in Grade IV of the General Cadre OR
    • Grade II of the Stenographers’ cadre OR
    • Grade II of the Cypher sub-cadre of the Indian Foreign Service, Branch ‘B’ OR
    • Two or all the above grades as the case may be

Category III -Assistants’ Grade of Railway Board Secretariat Service and Grade C of the Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers’ Service

  • Not less than 5 years’ approved and continuous Service in Grade of the Railway Board Secretariat Service OR
  • Grade ll/ Grade C of the Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers’ Service OR
  • Both as the case may be.

Category IV – Personal Assistant of the Central Secretariat Stenographers Service

  • Not less than 3 years approved and continuous service in Personal AssistantsGrade of the Central Secretariat StenographersService.
  • Bachelor’s Degree of a recognized University or equivalent.

Category V – Grade II of the Stenographers’ cadre of the Indian Foreign Service, Branch ‘B’

  • Not less than 5 years approved and continuous service in Grade II of the Stenographers’ cadre of the Indian Foreign Service, Branch ‘B’.

Category VI – Grade C of Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers’ Service

  • Not less than 3 years’ approved and continuous service in Grade II/Grade C of the Armed Forces Headquarters Stenographers’ Service.

Category VII – Grade C of the Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers’ Service.

  • Not less than 5 years approved and continuous service in Grade II/ Grade C of the Railway Board Secretariat Stenographers’ Service.

Category VIII -Assistants’ Grade of I.B./Stenographers’ Service Grade II of I.B.

  • Permanent or regularly Category VIII appointed temporary Assistants/ Stenos Gr.II (P.A.s) of them with not less I.B. than 4 years’ approved and continuous Service in the case of Officers appointed in the grades based on Competitive Exam.
  • In Case of LDCE Exam Should have been held not less than 5 years before a crucial date.

Category IX – Private Secretary in Employees’ State Insurance Corporation

  • Not less than 3 years approved and continuous service in Personal Assistants Grade in Employees’ State Insurance Corporation.

UPSC S.O./Steno Application Form 2019 will be released on September 18, 2019. An application form will be available on the official website of UPSC. The candidate will go on the official website and fill the application form before October 10, 2019.

How to apply for UPSC SO Steno 2019?

  4. You have to register for UPSC S.O./Steno 2019.
  5. Fill in the personal details on the application form and generate an application number.
  6. Save this application number for login and other purposes.
  7. Pay application fee, upload documents.
  8. Apply and save it for future reference.

UPSC SO Steno Admit Card 2019

Union Public Service Commission will issue the admit card for S.O./Steno examination and exam three weeks before the examination. The UPSC S.O./Steno 2019 examination will be held on December 14, 2019. Candidates will download their admit directly through the commission’s website upsconline.nic.in. There will be no paper admit card issued by the Conducting body. You have to carry a valid photo ID proof with admit card in the exam centre. A photo ID you have to carry with you in the examination centre as proof.

UPSC SO Steno Exam Pattern and Selection Process 2019

UPSC S.O./Steno Exam Pattern shall be conducted according to the following plan. UPSC S.O./Steno Exam Pattern exam will be taken into two parts i.e. Part I & Part II. These both parts are discussed below.

Part-I

  • Written Examination Carrying Maximum of 500 marks.
  • Qualifying shorthand test in Hindi or English at 100 w.p.m.
  • Shorthand test is for those candidates who are competing in Categories IV, V, VI, VII and IX.
  • Competing Candidate will be required to transcribe their shorthand notes on computers.

Part-II

  • Evaluation of record of service carrying a maximum of 100 marks of candidates.
  • The candidate obtained minimum marks in written examinations may be fixed by the commission in their discretion (for categories I, II, III and VIII).
  • The candidate obtained minimum marks in written examinations and shorthand test may be fixed by the commission in their discretion (for categories IV, V, VI, VII and IX).
